Are you concerned about our planetary predicament?  Are you concerned about our resilience as we face mounting risks of disruption?  Are you interested in how we might navigate a course toward a viable future?  If your answer is yes, then this course is for you.  On this six week course you will engage with the planetary limits we are exceeding, the destabilizing risks they present, and the challenge of transitioning our social and economic  systems.  These are tense times and the feeling that our systems are no longer fit for purpose is growing.  This leaves many of us wondering how best to cope and what we can do. This  course will empower you to understand these problems better and to learn about the exciting initiatives that are emerging to address them.  

Fighting Disinformation: Disinformation, Propaganda and how to reclaim our information system

Brooke Binkowski is a veteran, award-winning journalist with a background in breaking news reporting, the U.S.-Mexico border, Indigenous rights, environmentalism, and post-conflict and humanitarian issues. After twenty years of reporting, she left those beats in 2015 to focus full-time on disinformation and propaganda campaigns, then called “fake news,” which were just beginning to plague American politics in earnest. By 2016, she realized that all of her previous beats were facets of the same story — a propaganda-fueled power grab leveraging pre-existing issues and aimed at destroying democratic institutions and norms. This course uses what she has learned over the past decades to identify common problems within information spaces and best practice for how to fight them.
